Weirs Channel 1950s-1960s

A gallery of images of the Weirs Channel looking north from the Aquedoctan stone bridge. The first two photos show the orginal Uncle Sam cruise ship. The Uncle Sam (1906-1961), and its successor, the Uncle Sam II, were based in Lakeport. The Uncle Sam II (1963-1967) was the last scheduled cruise ship to regularly pass through the Weirs Channel. Nowadays only private and charter vessels use the Channel.

A postcard of the channel in the late 1940s, before the beach and jetty were installed.
